National Aboriginal Physical Activity Awareness Week
June 21st to 25th

Whereas
Physical Activity, December June 21st to 25th, is a national campaign designed to increase national, provincial and remote awareness of the significance of Physical Activity among Aboriginal (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) for health and wellness;

Whereas
Aboriginal Physical Activity Awareness Week Campaign runs annually and is linked to National Aboriginal Day to recognize the unique heritage, the diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples;

Whereas
The Aboriginal population are over-represented among reported chronic disease cases, such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, which could be prevented by being physically active;

Whereas
Physical Activity can be promoted as sports, recreation, fitness, or traditional activities by Aboriginal groups or individuals through villages, recreation or community centres, neighborhoods, traditional territories or water ways, towns, cities and throughout the world;

Whereas
Aboriginal Physical Activity & Cultural Circle stands in solidarity with Aboriginal organizations nationwide who take part in this campaign and organizations nationwide who desire change for the better, more equal and healthier Aboriginal population;

Whereas
It is only through awareness of the breadth of this human right and public health crisis that physical activity can be promoted;

Therefore

Be it resolved that
The signatories and Aboriginal Physical Activity & Cultural Circle do hereby proclaim June 21st to 25th, 2014 as the National Aboriginal Physical Activity Awareness Week
